Policies
The school commits to provide:
• Teacher(s) to teach the designated CCC Academy course(s)
• A building-level administrator to serve as liaison to the Academy program
• Permission for pilot teachers and their students to attend 4 quarterly meetings and the Expo
• A signed statement of commitment (this document) to CCC in advance of the Summer Institute
• Two one-hour Academy status review (teacher, program) meetings; one in December and one in June
To support the implementation, the school receives:
• 1 laptop for each course being implemented
• 1 digital projector for each course being implemented
• Access to the online environment for administration and teaching staff, including those who are not the teachers of record for the Academy courses
• $500 per class for curriculum materials (distributed to the class teacher)
Each participating teacher receives:
• $750 out-of-school stipend for attending the Summer Institute ($150/day for up to 5 days)
• $1000 academic year stipend
• The opportunity to participate in experiential learning activities such as industry tours, hosting classroom guest speakers, and industry externships
• Continuing Education Units (CEUs) at the rate of .1 for every hour of professional development
Responsibilities of participating teacher:
1. Participate in teacher activities during the one-week CCC Summer Institute.
2. Provide ongoing feedback to staff via evaluation and survey instruments on curriculum development and the CCC program in order to improve the online course.
3. Maintain daily communications via the CCC Project Web site, e-mail, and/or phone with CCC staff, as needed.
4. Provide support to his or her students to facilitate online registration and enrollment in the CCC Moodle online learning environment.
5. Facilitate students’ use of instructional materials and completion of the CCC course online learning activities.
6. Facilitate students’ attendance at 4 quarterly meetings during the academic year.
7. Facilitate the development of exemplary electronic student portfolios for participating students in respective CCC course.
8. Support district processes for adoption of CCC course curriculum at the participant’s local high school.
9. Facilitate student attendance and participation in the Connecticut Student Innovation Exposition.
10. Schedule pupil transportation with bus company and forward invoice to EDUCATION CONNECTION for payment.
CCC Academy benefits:
1. Professional development, including but not limited to:
• CCC Summer Institute
• Online curriculum support for teachers during the academic year (available via Moodle, e-mail, phone)
• Online technical support for teachers and students during the academic year (available via Moodle, e-mail, phone)
• Minimum 2 classroom visits during the academic year in support of classroom teaching and professional development
2. Support for Academy implementation, including but not limited to:
• Bound copies and online access to standards-aligned 21st century curricula in Earth & Energy Science Essentials and Digital Media Communications
• Reimbursement for pupil transportation to 4 quarterly meetings and CT Student Innovation Expo
• Access to mentors from the professional and academic communities through quarterly events, online interactions, industry tours, guest speakers, and industry externships
• Access to student ePortfolio system for all students in the Academy, for use in Student Success Plans and documentation
• Student and team Web accounts for publication of academic projects
3. Admission to the CT Student Innovation Expo, including but not limited to:
• T-shirts and promotional materials
• Access to projects and exhibits by more than 2,000 Connecticut youth
• Student awards
• Admission to the CT Student Film Festival
